Abbotsford International Airshow Video Clips
1986 - 1988

The video clips below are taken from the Abbotsford International Airshow (1986 - 1988), mostly from the arrivals on Thursday and departures on Monday. I have tried to pick out only the unique clips, the sort of things you don't see every day, or perhaps just from a perspective that you wouldn't normally see. Most clips run about 15-20 seconds and are around 0.5-1.6 MB (zipped to minimize file storage and download time). All the clips are taken from my dad's home videos.

Abbotsford 1986

SR-71 taking off from Abbotsford, B.C. Flames are clearly visible (August 11) 1.2MB 19s
Head on approach VERY low over the runway (August 11) 1.2MB 20s
Another head on approach, this one at high speed (August 11) 0.8MB 15s
Snowbirds 9-plane formation landing (August 7) 1.4MB 17s

KC-10 Extender low level head on flyby with gear retracted on arrivals day (August 7) 0.9MB 18s
C-5 Galaxy low flyby overhead on arrivals day (I cut out around 2 seconds in the middle as the tape was damaged a little) (August 7) 1.1MB 13s
NASA Quiet Short-Haul Research Aircraft (based on the De Havilland Buffalo with four jet engines) slow speed pass (August 10) 1.2MB 19s

Abbotsford 1987

A rare formation with an AV-8B Harrier leading an F-86 Sabre and a MiG-15 0.7MB 16s
Very rarely seen at airshows, and now retired, a US Army CH-54 Tarhe from Reno, Nevada arrives at Abbotsford Airport for the airshow. 1.7MB 22s
CF-18 Hornet on final approach, nice close-up 1.1MB 15s
This clip is notable because this CF-18 came very close to impacting the runway. The thumbnail to the right shows the Hornet when it finally levelled out coming out of a loop. 0.7MB 17s
Two flybys from three F-4 Phantoms from the Oregon Air National Guard 0.8MB 16s
Another Phantom 3-ship. This one I put on the site mostly because of the sounds of the jets. Very cool! 0.6MB 15s
Two low and slow flybys by a Canadian Airlines DC-10 in formation with for Pitt Specials from the Ray Ban Golds aerobatic team 1.6MB 26s
Fire fighting demonstration by Abbotsford's own Conair Aviation in one of their DC-6 tankers 1.0MB 10s
Pilots Jimmy Franklin and Eliot Cross and wingwalkers Johnny Kazian and Lori Ross perform for the first time ever in front of an audience a baton pass. 0.8MB 19s
Formation flyby of an A-26 Invader, 4 T-6 Texans/Harvards, T-28 Trojan, and a Sea Fury 0.5MB 12s

Abbotsford 1988

A high speed pass by the B-1B Lancer during its first ever performance at Abbotsford 0.4MB 10s
Rare two ship Harrier demo on arrival/practice day at Abbotsford. One aircraft flew during the airshow. 1.2MB 24s
B-52 from Fairchild AFB on take off after airshow 2.4MB 36s
An impressive head on flyby after the airshow before heading home 1.6MB 29s
Unreal head on pass by an F-4 Phantom. The pilot kept the Phantom low even as he went overhead. 0.7MB 12s
Another unique flyby; this time an F-14 Tomcat with Team America. This was on arrival day. The tape quality is not great on this clip. 0.8MB 17s
KC-135 Stratotanker and an F-4 in a flyby after the airshow 0.7MB 15s
KC-10 Extender and an F-16 in a flyby after the airshow 0.7MB 12s
